Carers in Southampton is a free service for adult informal carers who give their time, unpaid, to look after a family member, friend or neighbour with additional support needs.
We offer signposting, information, carers cards, statutory carers assessments and emergency plans.
NB We do not provide respite, carers, home visits, form filling or provide crisis intervention. Click here for emergency information.
Carers in Southampton accepts referrals for carers of adults and children but can only provide carers assessments for carers of adults over 18 with additional support needs (disabled/ill/elderly) who live in the local area served by Southampton City Council.

Emergency Planning This gives guidance for carers to make their own contingency document. Carers are now able to put their emergency plans on the Southampton City Council (SCC) database so that they are accessible to emergency services and adult social care if needed, even during outside of normal working hours. It is NOT a service offering emergency back up or proxy carer services. For carers without provision, an emergency contingency arrangement via Adult Social Care is in development.
We continue to offer usual services via phone and email 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
We are not currently accepting visitors to our office and our Carers Lunches will not take place.
This follows Government and NHS guidance to help prevent spread of infection to service users and employees.
Vaccine. Unpaid and family carers aged 16+ are listed as one of the priority groups for an early COVID-19 vaccination. You will automatically be invited for the vaccine if you are registered as a carer at your GP surgery or receive a carers benefit.
Carers over 18 in receipt of Carers Allowance can book via the National Booking Service or 119 in advance of receiving their letter of invitation with their personal details or NHS number. If you are in a priority group higher than group 6 you can contact the NHS or your GP and have the vaccine as a priority. If you are unsure whether you are registered as a carer at your GP or if you do not receive Carers Allowance then Carers in Southampton will notify the NHS that you are a carer if you complete this form: Pre-registration form
