Can you spare any time to offer some company and support to someone in your local community? If so, you could become a Mountbatten Neighbour.
The Mountbatten Neighbours project supports older people across Southampton and West Hampshire who are living with chronic life-limiting illness and with frailty and those that are feeling isolated from their local community.
Neighbours provide emotional and social support and develop natural, mutual friendships. They are valued by those who are involved in the project.
Mountbatten Neighbours began in 2018 and we are now keen to recruit many more volunteers to support hundreds of people across Southampton and west Hampshire.
A Mountbatten Neighbour will usually visit or meet with someone for at least one hour a week.
They support them by:
Visiting regularly Offering friendship and a listening ear
Telephone support
Supporting them to do the things they like and enjoy
Supporting them to stay connected to their community, family and friends.
We encourage our Mountbatten Neighbours to develop a sense of community through regular monthly development sessions, coffee meet ups, WhatsApp groups and further training.
We want this experience to enhance your life, as well as those of the people you support.
