Sustrans is a national charity promoting good health and exercise opportunities.
We work to ensure that the benefits of walking and cycling are enjoyed by everyone
The benefits of walking, cycling, wheeling and healthy places aren’t experienced in the same way by everyone. We prioritise work with people and in places that challenge this.
We involve people with different and seldom-heard voices, to develop solutions that work for everyone.
Sustrans organise Guided Health Walks meet outside the Hawthorns Centre on Southampton Common. The walks last an hour, at a moderate pace, and finish back at the Hawthorns Centre cafe where you can buy refreshments, meet new people and have a chat.
The Tuesday walk starts at 2 pm and the Thursday walk starts at 10.30. If it is your first time walking with us, please turn up 10 minutes before to register. Thanks.
These walks are part of the SMHN – Southampton Mental Health Network.
Thursdays at 11am from the cafe at Weston Parade – a walk that lasts about 50 minutes, including a 5 minute break, along Weston Shore to admire the view. Going at a gentle pace (or slightly faster), this walk is designed for people just beginning to use walking as a way to improve their health. We’ll stay on pavements and paths, and can adjust the route to suit the participants. Some of us stay for refreshments and a chat at the café after the walk. New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to meet the leader and register.
