Role Description: We are primarily looking for volunteers who, with SCC supervision, can assist at a symptom free testing collection point. Here they will be expected to engage with members of the public, talk to them about testing, vaccine and the Covid safe messages and explain why it remains important. They will also provide advice as to how to carry out a test to ensure it is as accurate as possible, as well as answer any questions before handing out free home (LFT) testing kits. These encounters will also be an opportunity to talk to residents, get feedback from the public and where appropriate advise them how they can access additional services and support.
Person Specification: The role requires individuals who are engaging, confident talking to members of the public, approachable, able to put people at ease and inspire confidence. They must be as good at listening as they are at talking, as well as comfortable delivering key public health messages surrounding testing and vaccination. A ‘can do’ attitude is essential. The role will best suit someone who enjoys being on the feet, rather than in front of screen and who is able to commit to a few hours once a week. Must be willing to undertake training and on the job coaching in support of this role (minimum of a 1 hr remote training session).
Skills required: Good communicator, empathetic, confident answering questions. Ability to learn and impart key public health messages. No clinical skills are required but people with a background in health or social care, or knowledge of support services would be advantageous.
Hours: Minimum of 4 hours commitment twice a month (ideally over a 3-6 month period)
Locations: 1) Bitterne Shopping Precinct (outdoors) – Wednesdays. 2)Royal South Hants (RSH) Vaccine Clinic– Weekends (either Saturdays or Sunday). 3) There may also be ad hoc opportunities at pop up events across the city and for broader community engagement work.
CRB/DBS: Not required
