One in four of us will experience issues with our mental health at some time in our lives. Do you want to use your skills and experience to play a leading role in a social enterprise that provides real, practical help?
Mayfield Nurseries is a Southampton based working nursery and horticultural social enterprise for people with lived experience of mental health issues.
We are a part of Solent Mind, a leading mental health charity across Hampshire. Since our beginnings in 2009, every penny we raise from the sale of our award-winning plants is ploughed back into our range of horticultural groups, workshops, and activities that support those living with mental health issues and dementia in our community.
Mayfield Nurseries seeks to have among its Trustees a range of experience and expertise, including one or more of the following:
- Knowledge of a local commissioning and partnership working landscape
- Customer service focussed – ideally horticulture retail experience
- Fundraising and marketing
- Horticultural or retail expertise
- Digital Transformation
If you feel you have a contribution to make as a Trustee / Director, particularly if you have expertise in any of the above areas or mental health policy/practice and can demonstrate a commitment to Solent Mind and its aims and values, we would be delighted to hear from you.
The role of the Board is to govern the charity; setting policy, strategy, and ensuring exemplary governance and fiscal control. The day to day management of Mayfield Nurseries is delegated to a Chief Executive and a small team of senior managers.

Our highest priority is to increase the diversity of background, experience, and thinking represented by the Board so that we more closely reflect the communities we work with and are opened up to new perspectives.
We actively welcome and encourage applications from people with lived experience of mental health, or from diverse communities within Southampton
